An alleged militant involved in the murder of a ruling party leader was among two ultras killed in what security forces said an encounter with them in the Indian-administered Kashmir on Sunday, reports the PTI citing local police.

The deceased are Abid Rashid Dar alias Haqani and Azad Ahmed Shah, whom Indian police identified as members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, according to The Hindu.

One of them was linked to the murder of BJP leader Waseem Bari and two of his family members.

Bari, the Bandipora district unit leader of BJP, his father and brother were shot dead in July last year.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Watrina area of Bandipora district in north Kashmir following inputs about the presence of terrorists, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorist fired upon the forces, who retaliated.

"In the ensuing encounter, two unidentified terrorists were killed," the official said.

"#Killer of BJP leader late Waseem Bari, his father and brother #killed in the #encounter. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.

The official said incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, was recovered from the site of the encounter.

The search operation is on in the area, he added.

Dar and Shah were the remaining militants involved in the killings of Bari and hais family members, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said, adding that with their elimination, the investigation of the case stands closed.
