West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday sought the resignation of India’s Home Minister Amit Shah after four people died in clashes at a booth in the state’s Cooch Behar district. India’s Election Commission has adjourned polling at the booth.
While speaking at a public meeting in North 24 Parganas, Mamata shared that she would be leaving for Cooch Behar after attending rallies, and would visit the spot where the security forces opened fire during polling, Outlook India reported.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has written to the poll body claiming that the four people were killed in the constituency after security forces opened fire. The party sought the poll body’s intervention into the matter, Scroll.in reported.

Neither the police nor Election Commission, however, have made an official statement on the matter.
Several Indian media reports suggest that the incident took place after TMC and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers clashed in Sitalkuchi, a village in the Cooch Behar district.
Earlier, a first-time voter identified as Anand Burman was shot dead outside a polling booth in the same constituency.
Close to 66.76% turnout was recorded till 4pm local time in the fourth phase of state elections in West Bengal, as 44 seats went to polls on Saturday.
Earlier, voting began at 7am local time in all constituencies.
Over 11 million voters will decide the fate of 373 candidates fielded in Saturday’s round of polling.
