Update : 10 Jul 2020, 12:19 AM

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has imposed a one- week on flights conducted by US-Bangla Airlines.

The Chinese authority took the decision after the country had found five passengers infected with Covid-19 on a special flight of US-Bangla to Guangzhou on June 27.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Md Mafidur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.

“We have received a letter from Chinese civil aviation authorities over the matter. It’s part of their circuit breaker policy.

“CAAC slaps a one-week ban when more than five passengers are found infected with Covid-19 in a flight while a month’s ban is imposed if the number of infected passengers is more than 10,” added the CAAB chairman.

The ban has been in effect since July 6 and it will be lifted on July 12.

Earlier the China Southern Airlines, which operated a Dhaka to Guangzhou flight once a week, was banned for a month after 17 passengers of a flight tested positive for Covid-19.
