The man identified as Abdul Haque, 38, is a resident of Sunamganj. He swam across the river from Sylhet’s Jakiganj border area around 7am on Sunday and was later apprehended by India’s Border Security Force.

Lt Col Rafiqul Islam, commanding officer of BGB Battalion 41, said: “The man was brought back after a conversation between BGB and BSF. The man had fever and was speaking incoherently. His samples were sent for test to look for Covid-19 infection.”

Meanwhile, the man claimed to BSF, that he is a Covid-19 patient and entered India seeking treatment, reports an Indian news portal, Hindustan Times.
