A Bangladeshi man, who was tortured by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at their Bonnabaria border camp, died while receiving treatment at a hospital.
The victim, Hanef Ali Khoka, 32, hailing from Jessore’s Sharsha union Agrubhulot village, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Bonga Hospital in India on Wednesday night.
The victim’s uncle Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The victim’s uncle said Khoka was held by BSF men at their Bonnabaria border camp while trying to re-enter Bangladesh. The BSF men tortured Khoka inhumanly, leaving him critically injured. Later, the victim was admitted to Bogna hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead on Wednesday night.
Acknowledging the death, local Union Parisad Member Tabibur Rahman said Khonon went to his uncle’s home on the Indian side of the border two days ago and was held by BFS men upon his return to Bangladesh. Later, he died at Bogna hospital after being tortured inhumanly.
He also said Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is also negotiating with BSF authorities to bring the dead body back home.
Meanwhile, Agrobhulot BOP Commander Nayeb Subedar Mozzamel Hossain also confirmed the death of the Bangladeshi youth in the Indian hospital.
