Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked her cook to refrain from using onions while preparing food.
She made the statement in a lighthearted manner while speaking at the inaugural function of India-Bangladesh Business Forum (IBBF) in New Delhi on Friday, reports BSS.
The Bangladesh premier while addressing the function at Kamal Mahal Hall of Hotel ICT Maurya cracked a joke in Hindi which translates as saying she now have asked her cook not to use onions in preparing food items.
The price of onion in Bangladesh skyrocketed after the Indian government on September 29 banned onion export.
India is the second largest onion producer and exporter in the world after China.
However, Sheikh Hasina urged the India government to inform Bangladesh beforehand while taking any decision to stop the export of essential commodities.
Meanwhile, a consignment of around 1,500 tons of onion loaded in 60 trucks started entering Bangladesh from India on Friday, reports UNB.
