Several actors and celebrities participated in the 2019 Indian election from different states under several party symbols ranging from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Congress to Trinamool Congress (TMC).
In the biggest upset of the election on Thursday, the Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said he had lost his seat in the famous family's long-held home constituency, Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, to Smriti Irani, a TV soap opera star, before she started her career in politics in 2003.
Similarly, Bollywood superstars and BJP candidates, Hema Malini and Sunny Deol, are leading from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab’s Gurdaspur constituencies, and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, also a BJP candidate is leading from East Delhi.
Bengali actors and TMC candidates Nusrat Jahan Ruhi is leading from Basirhat constituency and Mimi Chakraborty from Jadavpur constituency in West Bengal.
Actor-turned-politician Deepak Adhikari, popularly known as, Dev takes lead over former IPS officer and BJP candidate Bharati Ghosh in Ghatal constituency, West Bengal.
TMC candidates Satabdi Roy is leading in Birbhum whereas Moon Moon Sen lost her seat in Asansol.
Meanwhile Urmila Matondkar, Congress candidate, won from North Mumbai.
