Lowest amount of funds utilized for minority welfare in Assam

Assam’s minority welfare department saw the highest utilization in 2016-17 with almost Rs285.8 million being used up out of a total of Rs289.5 million

Replying to a question posed by South Karimganj legislator Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha on Friday, the last day of the Autumn session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Minister of Welfare of Minorities and Development Ranjit Dutta said out of Rs336 million allocated in 2017-18 but only Rs189 million has been utilized.

Dutta added that the funds have been spent in only five activities – constructing common roomscum toilets, distributing e-rickshaws, commuted liabilities of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) training, construction of an office building at Majuli and providing salaries and incurred administrative expenses.

Assam’s minority welfare department saw the highest utilization in 2016-17 with almost Rs285.8 million being used up out of a total of Rs289.5 million. This fiscal also saw the lowest allocation of money in the last six years.

Prior to that, the financial year 2015-16 saw the highest allocation of Rs813.3 million out of which Rs254.1 million was utilized.
