The updated list of the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published on Sunday at midnight, in compliance with an Indian Supreme Court verdict.
A large number of civilians in Assam, labeled as “immigrants” from Bangladesh, fear that this could lead to their deportation.
When asked to comment on the matter, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora said: “Muslims are relatively blacklisted whereas, Hindus are let scot free.”
The Congress in Assam has accused the BJP of drawing up a blueprint to deport minorities in the name of the NRC update.

Several ministers in India are supporting this decision. Among them, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said: “Muslims in Assam should leave if their names are missed from NRC’s updated list.”
In addition, Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said: “Muslims are a threat to the security of the nation.”
Paramilitary troops have been deployed across Assam, and the Indian army have been asked to prepare themselves for any upcoming disruption that may follow.
