A Myanmar minister responsible for repatriating Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh on Saturday said the Rohingya people may have “planned” their exodus to give it the appearance of ethnic cleansing.
Al Jazeera reported that Myanmarese representatives will meet with their Bangladeshi counterpart at the end of October to begin a process to repatriate at least 100 Rohingya a day which identity match with Myanmar government record.
In an interview with the Qatar-based news organisation, Wyn Myat Aye, Myanmar minister for Resettlement, said: “We are identifying those (Rohingya) who are legit and then will send back to their home.”
“We will rebuild home for them [the returning Rohingya refugees] if they have lost it already. In the mean time, they have to live in temporary camps,” Wyn said.
On August 2, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said Myanmar proposed to take back over half a million of its Rohingya from Bangladesh as the two countries agreed to set up a working group to coordinate the repatriation of the minority ethnics who have fled across the border after a military crackdown.
The two sides agreed on forming a joint working group to oversee the repatriation process but its composition would be decided later by both the countries, he said.
