Update : 10 Sep 2017, 05:42 PM
Police in the Indian state of Telengana have arrested a businessman and his two sons from the state capital, Hyderabad, who they say are Bangladeshis staying illegally in the country. The man was identified as Abdul Malek in some media reports and Abdul Qayyum in others. Some media reports said the three were arrested on Friday for their links with a terrorism suspect caught in June. The Deccan Chronicle reported that the arrestees were Abdul Qayyum, 50, a Bangladeshi and his two sons aged 19 and 17. Qayyum came to India in 2009 on a Bangladeshi passport and settled in the city, it said. According to the Telengana Today, Qayyum owned an interior decoration business and had a three-storey home in the city's P&T Colony in Sun City area. His wife is reportedly from 24 Paraganas of West Bengal. Police later denied that the arrestees had any connection with terrorism. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Sandeep Sandilya told The Hindu that Qayyum's Indian passport and other identifying documents appeared to be forged and the trio were being investigated for possible overstay. On Sunday, police registered a case of forgery, cheating and under the provisions of the Passport Act against the man for fraudulently securing Indian passport and other documents. Initially, investigators suspected that he had connections with a terror module. A special team of UP police arrived in Hyderabad looking for Qayyum.
