Update : 23 Dec 2015, 08:58 AM

A policeman has been killed and two others were injured when four men opened fire, allegedly at an undertrial from a rival gang, inside the Karkardooma Court premises in east Delhi.

Three of the shooters were detained but one managed to escape, police said, reports NDTV.

The incident occurred around 11am on Wednesday when Irfan was being produced in court room no. 73.

Head Constable Ram Kumar, who was accompanying undertrial Chenu Phelwan alias Irfan, received three bullet injuries to his head and chest and died on the spot. Over six rounds were fired by the assailants.   "The gang entered the court and opened fire when they saw Irfan. He was injured and has been hospitalised," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Sanjay Beniwal. "Unfortunately, the policeman accompanying Irfan got killed," he said. "Irfan belongs to another (criminal) gang." A clerk present in the court also sustained injuries in the firing.
