India sends 109 to jail for urinating in public

Indian police have sent 109 persons to jail for urinating in public places in Agra.

They were later released after paying a fine ranging from Rs100 to Rs500, Times of India reports.

According to the report, the 109 persons were charged after they were found urinating on the railway property, including platform and tracks parking lot.  

Gopeshnath Khanna, senior superintendent of police, GRP, ordered police personnel to conduct a drive against such miscreants and penalise them for public nuisance.

The drive was conducted over a 48-hour period across 12 stations of GRP, Agra division.

"The drive is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of 'Swachh Bharat' campaign. The offenders were charged under Section 34 of the Police Act" TOI quoted Khanna.
