Five militants killed on LoC in Kashmir

Update : 09 Jul 2013, 03:17 PM

Five suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT)militants were killed in a recent gunfight between the Army and militant forces on the Line of Control (LoC) of India and Pakistan border, The Hindu reported.

Army troops locked into clashes with the militants, on Monday night, in the Keran sector of the Kupwara district in Kashmir. The troops had observed movement near the Hema post on the LoC and an altercation with the armed militants resulted.

Unauthorised sources told The Hindu that a search operation was underway and continuing on Tuesday.

They were searching for militants they suspected were hiding in the region.

They also confirmed that no army troops had been fatally harmed during the altercation.

Although the sources said the LeT militants had suffered five casualties, senior police officials of the area denied that any dead bodies or weaponry had been released to the local police stations.

However an official of the Jammu and Kashmir police said they had received some “unofficial input” but, as of yet, were unable to confirm any other claims. He also claimed that his men were in contact with the Army.
