73rd anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 6, 1945, a single American aircraft dropped an atom bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later Nagasaki met the same fate. Japan surrendered within a week, ending World War II.
