A bipartisan group of representatives is also embarking on a journey to New Delhi to take part in the festivities unfolding at the iconic Red Fort.
The House resolution, championed by a group of legislators led by Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar, proclaims India's August 15 Independence Day as the "National Day of Celebration of the World's Two Largest Democracies." The resolution aptly underlines the robust partnership between the United States and India, both deeply rooted in shared democratic values, which is anticipated to further advance global democracy while fostering peace, stability, and prosperity for all nations.
The resolution, co-sponsored by Buddy Carter and Brad Sharman, recognizes the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official state visit on June 22. This visit solidified a heightened level of trust and mutual understanding between the two nations, grounded in common interests and a shared commitment to freedom, democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, and human rights.
The resolution further acknowledges the substantial contributions of Americans with Indian heritage to public life in the United States, emphasizing their roles as government officials, military personnel, and law enforcement officers dedicated to upholding the principles of the US Constitution. This enriching diversity significantly enhances the nation's fabric.
The delegation of US lawmakers, led by Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans co-chairs Ro Khanna and Michael Waltz, is set to experience a momentous journey. Their visit includes paying homage at Raj Ghat, a historic memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. The delegation's itinerary encompasses meetings with leaders in business, technology, government, and Bollywood across Mumbai, Hyderabad, and New Delhi.
Khanna and Waltz, as co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, underscore the pivotal role of the US-India relationship in shaping the 21st century. They emphasize their shared belief in strengthening economic and defense ties between the two countries, ensuring multipolarity in Asia, and deterring any hegemony by China.
