Five Bangladeshi expatriates have been killed and two others injured in a road accident at Jabal al-Noor in Makkah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
Two Saudi nationals were also killed in the incident.
The deceased are Md Aiyub, Nazir Hossain, Md Sharif, Md Alam and Md Monsur. All of the victims were from the Cox's Bazar district.
The two other injured Bangladeshis--Md Ismail and Joynal--were admitted to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
“We have already sent a team to the spot to enquire about the incident. Detailed information of the accident will be made public after receiving information from the inspection team.” said Md Mokkamal Hossain, labour councillor of Bangladesh Embassy in Jeddah to the Dhaka Tribune.
Md Reza Raggi, second secretary of Bangladesh Embassy in Jeddah said: “A taxi carrying seven Bangladeshi expatriates veered onto the footpath as the driver lost control over the vehichle and ran two Saudi nationals over around 6:30am (Saudi Arabia time) on a highway in Makkah, leaving seven people dead on the spot and two others injured.”
The bodies will be sent to Bangladesh soon, if family members claim them, he added.
