Israeli military strikes on Sunday killed at least 23 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including a local journalist and a senior official from the rescue services, according to local health authorities.

Separate Israeli strikes on the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis, the northern Gaza Strip city of Jabalia, and the central Gaza Strip city of Nuseirat caused the most recent casualties in the Israeli assault, according to medical professionals.

Local journalist Hassan Majdi Abu Warda and a number of his family members were slain in Jabalia when an airstrike struck his home on Sunday, reports Reuters.

Ashraf Abu Nar, a top officer in the territory's civil emergency service, and his wife were murdered in their home by another airstrike in Nuseirat, according to doctors.

Abu Warda's passing brought the total number of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 220, according to the government media bureau.

Israeli forces, either by ground forces, evacuation orders, or shelling that keeps civilians away from their homes, control 77% of the Gaza Strip, according to a separate statement from the media office.

In separate statements released on Sunday, the Islamic Jihad and Hamas armed wings claimed that resistance fighters had attacked Israeli forces stationed in various parts of Gaza with bombs and anti-tank rockets, as well as carried out many ambushes.

The Israeli military reported on Friday that it had carried out more attacks in Gaza during the course of the night, striking 75 targets, including rocket launchers and weapons storage sites.

According to Gaza health authorities, the battle has destroyed the coastal strip and killed around 53,900 Palestinians. According to aid organizations, there are several indications of severe malnutrition.
