Israeli military airstrikes across the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of at least 61 people within the space of 48 hours, according to local medics.
An airstrike on the Halima al-Sa'diyya school compound in Jabalia urban refugee camp, which was serving as a shelter for displaced persons, killed at least eight people and injured 15 others.
The Israeli military claims the strike targeted a Hamas command center located within the compound, accusing Hamas of misusing civilian infrastructure for military purposes—a claim that Hamas denies.
Additional strikes have led to further casualties: five people were killed in a strike on a house in Gaza City, and another airstrike on Amr Ibn Ala'as school in the Sheikh Radwan suburb of Gaza City resulted in four deaths and 25 injuries.
The Israeli military asserts that this strike was aimed at a Hamas command center previously used as a school.
On Saturday, Palestinian health officials reported a total of 28 deaths across the Gaza Strip due to Israeli airstrikes.
Meanwhile, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Fatah have engaged Israeli forces in various parts of Gaza, employing anti-tank rockets, mortar bombs, and improvised explosive devices against military vehicles.
Efforts by mediators, including Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, to broker a ceasefire have thus far been unsuccessful. The US is preparing to propose a new plan, but significant gaps between the warring sides suggest that a resolution may remain elusive.
Israel's military offensive has killed at least 40,939 people in Gaza as the conflict enters the 12th month.
