Saudi Arabia and other middle eastern countries will observe Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, as the Shawwal moon was sighted on Thursday.
Therefore, Thursday will be the last day of Ramadan, and Sunday will be the first day of Shawwal.
Meanwhile, eight countries around the world -- Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Brunei, Australia and the Philippines are set to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday.
Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations follow the end of Ramadan which lasts 29 or 30 days based on when the crescent moon is sighted.
Muslims follow a lunar calendar consisting of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days.
