3 Bangladeshis among 9 dead in Saudi road mishap

At least three Bangladeshi expatriates and six others from India and Egypt have been killed in a road crash in al-Baha province of Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening.

Six others were also injured in the accident, according to a Saudi Gazette report.

The Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Malam Mia, from Pahariakandi village of Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria; Alal Uddin, from Panchakandi village of Monohordi in Narsingdi; and Saiful Islam, from Samirkhil village of Nangolkot in Comilla, reported UNB.

Among the other deceased are two Indians and four Egyptians.

The accident took place when the driver of a van carrying them lost control on a mountainous road in the province on Saturday evening.

The ill-fated workers – all staff of a catering company – were on their way to a holiday resort to spend their day-off. Saudi Red Crescent Authority along with the Ministry of Health and Civil Defence emergency teams rushed to the site of the accident and shifted the injured to Prince Mishari hospital in Baljurashi. Two critically injured victims – an Indian and a Bangladeshi – were shifted to King Fahad Hospital in al-Baha where the Indian worker succumbed to his injuries. Prince Dr Hossam Bin Saud Bin Abdul Aziz, emir of al-Baha region, offered condolences to the families of the deceased workers and wished speedy recovery of the injured, UNB reported.
