On August 31, 2016, around 20,000 people flocked to the Spanish town of Bunol to participate in the 71st annual La Tomatina festival, the world’s biggest food fight.
In preparation for the festival, local residents covered their houses with large plastic sheets as truckloads of tomatoes were shuttled into town. Over the course of the hour-long event, revellers pelted each other with around 150,000kg of tomatoes and the streets ran red with pulp.
The annual tomato fight has been a tradition in Bunol since the end of World War II, and is drawing a large international following every year.
