British courts have sentenced three Bangladeshi origin brothers to different terms for sexual offenses against children in Leeds and Barrow-in-Furness, UK.
Shah Amran Miah, 49, known as Jai; Shah Alman Miah, 47, known as Ali; and Shah Joman Miah, 38, known as Sarj were convicted in October last year for abuse that occurred between 1996 and 2010.
They had all denied the charges.
However, on Thursday, the judge revealed that Sarj had since confessed to all his crimes.
Their sentences are: Shah Amran Miah - life with a minimum term of 20 years and 338 days, Shah Alman Miah - 10 years in prison and four years on license, Shah Joman Miah - life with a minimum term of 21 years and 232 days.
The court heard that over a long period of time, starting when the victims were seven years old, Sarj and Jai routinely sexually molested two children at a mosque in Leeds.
Between 2008 and 2010, the three brothers also preyed on young and vulnerable schoolgirls in Barrow, Cumbria, at a flat above their family's takeaway.
They used what Barrister Tim Evans KC referred to as a "classic grooming technique" by giving them food, drink, cigarettes, and even hair extensions.
According to him, the brothers "created an environment in Barrow in which each of them could abuse young girls" and collaborated as a team.
According to Judge Unsworth KC, Jai had acted brutally to prevent the females from approaching the police, and the brothers were operating in plain sight.
Shah Amran Miah was convicted of 16 sexual offences, including rape, against three girls. She was also charged with two counts of intimidation and one of kidnapping.
Shah Alman Miah was convicted on three charges of having sex with a minor.
Three children were sexually abused by Shah Joman Miah, who was found guilty.
Among his 40 offences, nine were related to child rape.
