A Bangladeshi migrant working at a salvage yard in Sungei Kadut suffered a fatal injury to his neck after being struck by a forklift.

Following the incident on April 16, the forklift driver Beng Cheng Metal didn't call an ambulance. Instead, he personally drove to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, reports The Straight Times, a Singaporean newspaper.

Biswas Sanjay Kumar, 37, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, on April 22.

“He (Biswas) had been with the company for only one month, so it’s very unfortunate. It was an accident, and we are still in shock,” said Alvin Lim, one of the directors of the company.

Lim mentioned that on the day of the accident, Biswas, employed as a driver, was vocally guiding the forklift driver. It was only when Biswas stopped speaking that the forklift driver sensed something was wrong and found the Bangladeshi worker on the ground.

Lim said:“The (forklift driver) had a car and when he saw what happened, he panicked. He thought the best and fastest way was to take him (Biswas) to hospital himself.”

A police spokesperson, currently investigating the incident, reported receiving a call for aid from the hospital at 10:40am on April 16, approximately 40 minutes after the accident.

According to his cousin, Ojha Tapas, 36, Biswas migrated to Singapore a decade ago with the aspiration of earning enough money to build a home for his family in Joydihi village.

Lim said that Beng Cheng Metal is in the process of finalizing compensation details for Biswas' family through its insurance. Additionally, he mentioned the company's intention to extend financial support to the family in the interim.
