For the first time, Bangladeshi cosplayers are attending World Cosplay Summit in Saudi Arabia.

The World Cosplay Summit is a pop culture festival centered around a world competition gathering cosplayers who love works of Japanese manga, anime, or video games, said a press release.

Two cosplayers from the Bangladesh Association of Cosplayers (BAC) were invited to participate in the special edition of the World Cosplay Summit at the Gamers 8 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Oly Shahriar and Abir Hasan were the cosplayers who represented Team Bangladesh held on September 3.

Cosplay generally stands for costume play and is a performance art where the participants generally wave fashion accessories and costumes in order to represent a specific character.

It is a fundamental part of conventions, and ever since the inception of Dhaka Comicon in 2012, cosplay gathered the attention of enthusiasts spreading across Bangladesh.

After that, there were more than 20 cosplay events held in Bangladesh as of 2022.

Animecon Dhaka is the premier anime event of the country and garnered much fanfare over the years. In the last couple of years, owing to the popularity of the gaming industry more and more cosplayers have been cosplaying characters of different games, reads the press release.

Additionally, for the first time this year, a few cosplayers from Bangladesh will be travelling to India to attend Delhi Comic Con.
