The UIU Mars Rover team from United International University (UIU) has secured the first place in Asia, at the University Rover Challenge 2022 organized by the Mars Society.
The competition was held from June 1 to 4, at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in Southern Utah, US, reads a press release.
The nine-member from UIU Robotics Club secured 13th place out of 36 finalists and first place among Asian teams at the prestigious competition.
As many as 36 teams from 10 different countries took in the grand finale, including the US, Poland, India, Bangladesh, Australia, Canada, Columbia, Egypt, Mexico, and Turkey, reads the press release.
During the three-day final from June 2 to 4, the teams performed four missions including science exploration, autonomous navigation, extreme terrain traversal, and equipment
servicing mission to demonstrate the capabilities of their rover and operation skills.
UIU Mars Rover successfully completed all four missions and represented the university along with the country with pride, reads the press release.
Rokib Hasan was the student lead for this project from the Department of Computer Science, and the other subteams are led by Dip Chakraborty (vice lead and management subteam lead), Abid Hossain (mechanical subteam lead), Ahmed Junaed Tanim (electrical subteam lead), Abdullah Al Masud (software subteam lead), TM Al Anam (communication subteam lead) and Zidan Talukder (science subteam lead).
UIU Mars Rover was supervised by Akib Zaman, lecturer from the Department of CSE, UIU.
