A Bangladeshi man has been shot dead by a group of miscreants in South Africa for not paying extortion money.

The deceased has been identified as Shamim Shikder, 40. He was a resident of Madaripur.

The incident took place in Johannesburg city at around 8pm local time and 12pm Bangladesh time on Monday.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.

According to the victim's family members, Shamim went to South Africa some 14 years ago. He has a grocery shop with his brother-in-law in Johannesburg.

On Monday, a group of miscreants demanded money from Shamim and his brother-in-law when they were at their store. When Shamim refused to pay, the miscreants shot him several times and ran away.

Shamim was then rushed to a local hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

At least two more Bangladeshi men were killed in South Africa last month.
