Amid the attacks and killings of Bangladeshi citizens very often in South Africa, a young businessman from Noakhali was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Johannesburg.
The victim is 29-year-old Abu Taher Masud Rabbani Faisal, son of the district’s Chatkhil upazila resident Ziaul Haq.
Faisal came under the attack at his business facility in the Newlands area at 9pm (local time) on Tuesday, according to media reports.
He was shot with several rounds of bullets and then rushed to a local hospital, where the ill-fated was declared brought dead.
The eldest among five siblings, Faisal was also the father of a girl child.
In search of a better living, he had first gone to South Africa in 2015 and afterward, started his own business.
His uncle Md Mahfuz told reporters that they were informed of the killing through a phone call.
“Faisal closed his business and went to bed inside the entity as he used to do every night. But after quite some time, his neighbours heard the sound of several gunshots coming out of there,” Mahfuz said.
Later on, they broke open the business establishment and found him lying on the ground with severe injuries.
“They immediately took him to a local hospital. However, the on-duty doctor there pronounced him,” Mahfuz concluded.
