At least six Bangladeshi citizens living in the city of Darna in Libya have died due to the impact of Cyclone Daniel.
Bangladesh Embassy in Libya disclosed the information in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Four of the deceased have been identified. They are Shaheen and Sujan of Rajbari district and Mamun and Shihab of Narayanganj district.
However, the embassy has not been able to confirm the identity of two more people. Besides, some more Bangladeshis living in Darna city are feared to be missing.
According to the post, it is requested to contact the First Secretary (Labour) of the Embassy Md Rasel Miah (mobile number: +218918580989) to know the information of expatriates affected by Cyclone Daniel in different cities of Libya and to provide the information of expatriates missing in the cyclone.
Cyclone Daniel and floods have severely damaged the eastern part of Libya, especially the cities of Darna, Sahat, Al-Baida, Al-Marj.
Hundreds of thousands of people are feared to have died in the floods caused by the Darna dam collapse caused by heavy rains.
Besides, thousands more people are currently missing.
In this situation, the embassy is maintaining constant communication with the relevant authorities, local and international organizations engaged in rescue operations including members of the Bangladesh community to know the latest status of expatriate Bangladeshi citizens living in Darna city.
