A mysterious 911 emergency call sent police to the zoo, only to find out that a monkey made the call from a cell phone.
The bizarre incident took place at Zoo to You in Paso Robles, California.
On Saturday night, police recieved a call from the zoo, however, the line was disconnected before anyone could speak.
After receiving the call, a police team was dispatched right away to investigate what might have been an emergency at the zoo, according to a report from Metro.
The deputies followed the call to the zoo office but were unable to locate any troubled people. Their main suspect was revealed to be a monkey who had played mischief, the report said.
The San Luis Obispo County sheriff's office thinks a Capuchin monkey at the zoo named Route had apparently picked up a zoo cell phone, which was misplaced in a golf cart, and called the emergency hotline.
"It's been said that capuchin monkeys are extremely curious, would grasp anything, and will just start pressing buttons. Route did exactly that, and it just so happened to be in the perfect sequence of numbers to call us " the Sheriff's Office said.
The curious young monkey got its paws on the golf cart after it was left unattended among the 40 acres of the zoo's grounds, according to officials.
The sheriff's office also posted many images of the mischievous monkey on Facebook, saying that while they had witnessed their fair share of monkey business, they had never seen anything quite like this.
