Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to visit India’s capital city Delhi on September 6 or 7 this year.

High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami handed over an official invitation letter in this regard on Thursday.

An official of India’s Ministry of External Affairs told Bangla Tribune that a meeting between the foreign ministers of Bangladesh and India on June 19 discussed the prime minister's visit to Delhi.

“We are informed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is comfortable to visit Delhi in the first week of September,” they said.

Noting that Prime Minister Hasina last visited Delhi in October 2019, the official said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind had visited Dhaka in 2021 to mark the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence, the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of bilateral relations between the two countries.

“Now it's our turn to serve Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” they said.

Previously, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said the date would be set before the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) starts on September 13.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended an invitation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit India in 2022.

The two countries witnessed momentum in their relations last year with a series of engagements including high-level visits.
