An 18-year-old had left her baby daughter alone while she went on a six-day party to celebrate her birthday, back in 2019, according to media reports.
Verphy Kudi, now 19, pled guilty to the manslaughter of her baby daughter Asiah on Friday, reports The Sun.
At the Lewes Crown Court held on Friday, it was heard that on December 5, 2019, Kudi left her daughter Asiah alone in an apartment while she left to celebrate her birthday.
Investigations by the Sussex police found CCTV footage of Kudi attending parties in London, Coventry and Solihull near Birmingham, in the United Kingdom (UK) while on her celebrations, reports The Argus.
Kudi returned to the apartment on December 11, 2019, and found Asiah unresponsive. Shortly after, she called emergency services and baby Asiah was taken to the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton and confirmed dead on arrival.
Forensic reports and a postmortem revealed that Asiah’s death was due to neglect.
At the time of the incident, Kudi’s accomodation was provided by the YMCA on behalf of Brighton and Hove City Council.
Baby Asiah was under a child protection plan, however there was no social worker assigned to her case at the time of her death.
Kudi was scheduled to stand trial later in the year, however her plea was accepted by the prosecution.
She has been in prison since October 2020, and was remanded while in custody. She is due to be sentenced on May 28, after the release of a psychology report.
