The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has set a target to administer Measles-Rubella vaccine to over 30 million children aged below 10.

A 44-day "Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign" is set to begin on Saturday that is scheduled to end on January 24.

Minister Zahid Malqeue of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry will inaugurate the campaign at the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) on Thursday.

“Before the campaign, we have identified our attainable target for administering the vaccine to some 34,000,000 children through IPC,” said Dr Mowla Baksh Chaudhury, program manager (EPI) of DGHS.

The Measles-Rubella Campaign was scheduled to launch on December 5. But the authorities have rescheduled the vaccination campaign to December 12 instead of December 5 due to unavoidable circumstances, he added.

Children generally get their first dose of Measles-Rubella vaccine at the age of 9 months. The ideal age for getting the second dose of Measles is at 16 months. The time could be different if the first dose could not be taken before 9 months.
