The world has seen a sharp decline in the number of new daily cases of the coronavirus.
According to Worldometer, a total of 108,767 Covid-19 cases across the world were recorded on Sunday, taking the total number of Covid-19 cases to 6,263,911.
The number of daily cases fell by 12.36% on Sunday compared to Saturday. This marks a fall of 15,335 compared to the previous day (Saturday), which saw 124,102 new cases.
The highest daily rise so far was reported on May 29, with 125,473 cases from Covid-19 in a 24-hour period and on Sunday, the total cases were decreased by 13.31% from that day.
A week ago, on May 24, the number of new cases worldwide was 96,505 and a week before that on May 17, it was 82,257.
Till now, the number of active cases stands at 3,043,299.
Of the active cases, 2,989,892 (98%) were identified to be in mild condition while the rest 53,407 (2%) have been marked as serious or critical.
At the same time, 2,846,713 people from across the world have fully recovered from the infection or were discharged from treatment – which was 88% of cases which had an outcome.
The Covid-19 pandemic has claimed 373,899 lives since its discovery in December 2019 – which was 12% of cases which had an outcome.
In January, China effectively shut down Wuhan and placed its 11 million residents in effective quarantine after the novel coronavirus infection turned into outbreak.
The virus is thought to have emerged late last year in a Wuhan market illegally trading wildlife. It can cause pneumonia, respiratory diseases, among others, and spreads between people in droplets from coughs and sneezes.
Till now, coronavirus or Covid-19 has affected 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
