Russia to sell six SU-30 warplanes to Myanmar

Russia will sell six SU-30 fighter jets to Myanmar, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Alexander Fomin said on Monday. An agreement reached in this regard during Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu’s visit to Myanmar, reports the TASS Russian News Agency. The Russian deputy defense minister said this plane will become the main fighter aircraft of Myanmar’s air force to protect the country’s territorial integrity and repel any terror threats. He said Russian armaments proved their capability during their operation in Myanmar’s Armed Forces. Fomin said more than 600 Myanmar military are studying in Russia’s higher military educational institutions. Shoigu visited Myanmar on January 20-22. An intergovernmental agreement on a streamlined entry for warships in Russia’s and Myanmar’s ports was also signed during the visit. Shoigu also held talks with the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
