Malaysian actor Sharnaaz Ahmad Bazir Ahmad has been fined RM1,200 for punching a Bangladeshi man, who is an employee of a golf club.
A Magistrate's Court fined the actor on Tuesday, reports The Star.
The actor, who is popular for his role as Lan Todak in the movie Juvana, punched Gous Ali on his face at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club on July 22.
The 32-year-old was charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Upon conviction, the actor could be jailed for a maximum of one year or be fined up to RM2,000 or both.
Sharnaaz pleaded guilty before the court and paid the fine of RM1,200.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged the court to impose a sentence that would serve as a lesson for the actor.
On the other hand, Defence counsel Zulkifli Awang said: “He has apologised to the victim. The incident happened because of a misunderstanding.”
The defence counsel also said the victim did not suffer serious injury.
