Both the Bangladesh boys and girls tennis teams swept into the semi-finals of the ITF Asian U-12 Team Championship 2017 (south Asia regional qualifiers) after winning their respective group stage matches in Kathmandu, Nepal on Tuesday.
Having been placed in Group B along with Sri Lanka, Pakistan and host Nepal, the Bangladesh boys won all their matches to reach the last four as group champion while the girls finished as Group A runners-up.
The Bangladesh boys came from behind to beat Sri Lanka 2-1 in their last match of the group stage. Jubaer Utsha lost Bangladesh’s first singles before Rumman Hossain levelled the margin winning the second singles. Alvi and Rumman pair won the doubles to confirm top spot from the group.
The Bangladesh girls, who earlier defeated Bhutan, lost to Sri Lanka 3-0 in their second match to finish as group runners-up.
The Bangladesh girls team, comprising Sadia Afrin, Mashfia Afrin and Dipanwita will face India in the semi-final on Thursday while the boys will take on Bhutan on the same day in the battle for the final.
