Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib yesterday got off to a winning start in the Prime Bank 17th International Rating Chess Tournament, organised by Leonine Chess Club. The competition got underway yesterday at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hallroom.
Razib defeated Abul Kasheh in the first round while International Master Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagor received a walkover against Kazi Mahbub Afzal. In the day’s other games, Javed beat Nesar Uddin, Parag beat Shamiha Sharmin Simmi and Women’s IM Rani Hamid got a walkover against Sharifuzzaman. A total of 117 players, including one GM, three International Masters and six Fide Masters are taking part in the event which is following the nine-round Swiss League system. The number of rated players is 95.
Meanwhile, another Bangladesh Grandmaster, Ziaur Rahman, returned to winning ways after beating R Ashwath of India in the eighth round of the 13th Parsvnath Delhi International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2015 yesterday in New Delhi. The second GM of the country has earned only five points so far following the end of the eighth round.
