The Bangladesh open team conceded their first defeat while the women’s side lost again in their fourth round games in the 41st World Chess Olympiad on Tuesday which is being held in Tromso, Norway.
Following two wins and a draw, Bangladesh lost to former Olympiad champions and ninth seeded the Ukraine by 1-3 points in the fourth round games of the open category.
Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman (Rating-2523) drew with former world runners-up GM Vassily Ivanchuk (Rating-2744) and GM Abdullah Al Rakib (Rating-2522) drew with former world chess champion GM Ruslan Ponomariov (Rating-2717) of the Ukraine.
GM Enamul Hossain Razib lost to GM Pavel Eljanov (Rating-2723) and Niaz Murshed (Rating-2453) lost to GM Alexander Moiseenko (Rating-2707) of Ukraine.
Meanwhile in the women’s section, Bangladesh lost to Switzerland by 3.5-0.5 points in the fourth round. WIM Shamima Akter Liza (Rating-2147) lost to WIM Seps Monika (Rating-2236), WFM Nazrana Khan (Rating-
2001) lost to WGM Hund Barbara (Rating-2153) and WIM Rani Hamid (Rating-1995) lost to WIM Heinatz Gundula (Rating-2169). Only Sharmin Sultana Shirin (Rating-1984) managed a draw against WFM Stoeri Laura (Rating-2123).
The Bangladesh open team have earned five match points and nine game points following the conclusion of the fourth round while the women’s side garnered four match points and 7.5 game points.
