Bangladesh chess team registered their second successive victory in the open section of the 41st World Chess Olympiad beating higher seeded Chile comfortably by 3-1 points in the second round in Tromso, Norway on Sunday.
Bangladesh Open team now shares the top spot in the points table alongside the other 35 teams. The team has now earned four points after the end of the 2nd round. All the players of Bangladesh team (55 seeded) have lower ratings than the opponents (50 seeded).
Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman (Rating-2523) beat GM Vasquez Schroeder Rodrigo (Rating-2533) while International Master Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar (Rating-2418) beat IM Henriquez Villagra Cristobal (Rating-2457).
GM Abdullah Al Rakib (Rating-2522) drew with GM Flores Rios Mauricio (Rating-2537) and GM Niaz Murshed (Rating-2453) drew with IM Valenzuela Fuentealba Luis (Rating-2455).
Meanwhile, in the women’s section, 58 seeded Bangladesh women team lost against 10 seeded Armenia by 0-4 points.
