Good start for Bangladesh in World Chess

Both the Bangladesh open and women’s teams made a flying start in the 41st World Chess Olympiad registering comfortable victories in the opening round in Tromso, Norway on Saturday.

The Bangladesh open team defeated Zimbabwe by 3-1 points while the women’s team outplayed Ghana by 4-0 points. In the open section, Grandmaster Abdullah Al Rakib defeated IM Mandizha Farai; IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar beat Masango Spencer while GM Niaz Murshed beat Mushore Emarald Takudzwa of Zimbabwe. The only defeat was suffered by GM Enamul Hossain Razib against IM Makoto Rodwell.

In the women’s section, WIM Shamima Akter Liza beat Sena Sarah, WFM Nazrana Khan beat Allotey Dorcas, WIM Rani Hamid beat Ayiku Angela Naa Amerley and WFM Zakia Sultana beat Ashley Christiana of Ghana.
