Mohammad Fahad Rahman, the youngest Fide Master of the country, took the solo lead at the top of the Union Insurance 34th National Junior (Under-20) Chess Championship 2014 points table beating reigning junior champion Ikramul Haque Siam at the chess federation hall-room yesterday.
Fahad now has maximum six points after the end of the sixth round while Minhazul Alam of Narayanganj is at second place with 5.5 points. Seven players are sharing third position with five points each - Siam, Protiva Talukder, Avik Sarkar, Abdullah Al Muhit, Mahmud Sharif, Afrin Jahan Munia, Swarnavo Chowdhury.
Avik defeated Abdullah Al Saif, Protiva beat Fahim Ahmed, Muhit pipped Mushrat Jahan, Sharif overcame Abu Bakar Jibon, Munia outclassed Md. Mizaul Islam while Anata Chowdhury lost out to Swarnova in the sixth round yesterday.
