Rais knocked out of Bangladesh Open

Bangladesh shuttler Md Rais Uddin got knocked out of the Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Open Challenge by Subhankar Dey of India in the tournament’s second day at the Shaheed Sohrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.

After being outplayed in the first set by 21-6, Rais showed little resistance in the second set, but eventually lost it by 21-15.

“I tried to stage a comeback in the second set after losing the first one. I fought well, but could not make it at the end. My today’s (Wednesday) opponent (Subhankar) is really a good player and he deserved to win,” said Rais Uddin who earlier beat Malaysian Jinn Yee Tin on Tuesday.

In the women’s singles event Bangladeshi Shapla Akter crashed out of the tournament against Sara Sunil Arathi of India. Shapla lost 21-11, 21-16.

In the men’s doubles event, Bangladeshi pair Moajjam Hossain and Minhaz Mohammad lost to Liang Jui Wei and Liao Kuan Hao of Chinese Taipei by 21-10,21-13; Deepak Khatri and Gaurav Venkat of India beat Chand Lal and Saif Uddin; Md Anamul Haque and Md Ahsun Habib Parash were outplayed by S Sanjeeth and Jagadish Yadav of India 21-12,21-17 and another Indian pair Abhishek Ahlawat and Bhaskar Chakraborty beat Md Jamil Ahmed and Mohammad Jabed Mostafa by 21-19, 19-21, 21-13 points.

Meanwhile in the mixed doubles, two Bangladesh pairs Mohammad Jabed Mostafa-Aktar Shapla and Parash-Aktar Nabila reached the second round after getting walkover from their Nepalese opponents. Chand Lal and Rehana Parvin lost to Sri Lankan pair T Sepalage Perera and U Weerasinghe by 21-16, 21-11 while Indians Abhishek Ahlawat and Sanskriti Chhabra defeated Md Jamil and Bristy Khatun by 21-15, 21-16 points.

Hsu Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei, Deepak Khatri, Ketan Chahal and Subhankar Dey of India, Dinuka Karunaratne of Sri Lanka, Alrie Guna Dharma of Indonesia, Yogendran Khrishnan and Shahzan Shah Misfahul of Malaysia registered victories in their respective matches of men’s singles to move to the quarterfinals.

In the women’s singles, Pai Hsiao Ma of Chinese Taipei, Trupti Murgunde and Juhi Dewangan of India, Sannatasah Saniru of Malaysia and A Kapuru Mudiyanselage of Sri Lanka reached the second round posting victories yesterday.
