Archer Abdur Rahman Alif returned home from Singapore Saturday after winning gold in the men’s individual recurve event at the second leg of 2025 Asia Cup.

It was Alif’s first gold medal in an international competition.

He received a warm welcome at the capital’s airport. National archery head coach Martin Frederick was also there.

“Very excited about the performance. Very happy to have the gold medal,” said the German coach at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

“We listened to national anthem. We are so proud. We are looking forward to make it more often,” added Frederick.

Bangladesh’s Himu Bachhar finished fourth in men’s compound individual event.

Considering Asia “a big continent”, Frederick said the fourth-place is “not that bad”. Then he added: “I like the gold medal from Alif.”

Alif also talked to the reporters.

“The coach told me, ‘do your normal shooting, you will win’,” said Alif.

He added: “When coach said Inshallah I got a lot of confidence. I never thought I would get to contest gold-medal match. I tried to achieve something like this. I want to qualify for the next Olympics and play there with the team.”

Frederick wants his charges to make similar performance in the World Cup.

He said: “Our goal in the World Cup is to be in the top eight.”
