US-based Bangladeshi boxer Zinnat Ferdous secured a bronze medal at the Boxam Tournament in La Nucia, Spain, which was her first entry in the competition.
It was in the Elite Women 50kg weight category as England’s Alice Pumphery and the Ukraine’s Yaroslava Marynchuk clinched top two spots, while Zinnat and Spain’s Laura Calderon won the bronze jointly.
Zinnat was Bangladesh’s lone boxer in the Boxam Tournament.
“While this bronze medal is a significant achievement, I’m determined to bring home the gold next time,” Zinnat told Dhaka Tribune.
“I’m incredibly proud to wear red and green, representing Bangladesh on the world stage. It’s an honor to put my country on the map and consistently show up for it.”
Zinnat gave a heartfelt thank you to Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Mamun, the vice president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, for his unwavering support, continuous belief and sponsorship in making this journey possible.
A total of 166 female and male boxers participated in the Boxam Tournament.
