Just an extra arrow made the difference as Bangladesh’s Abdur Rahman Alif had to be content with silver medal after a close battle against home archer Huang Li-Cheng of Chinese Taipei in Taipei Monday.
It was the final of the Under-21 recurve boys individual event at the 2024 Asian Youth Archery Championship interrupted lately by bad weather.
The first five sets, each containing three attempts, ended in a 5-5 draw.
Both launched one more arrow each to decide the winner where Alif scored 9 against Li-Cheng’s perfect 10.
Alif lost the match by 6-5 sets.
On average, Alif was ahead.
His average was 9.12 against Li-Cheng’s 9.
Bangladesh’s U-21 compound mixed team of Shahriar Rahman and Pushpita Jaman, and U-18 recurve mixed team comprising Mohammad Rafi, Nahid Hasan and Himel Sarwar reached the battle for bronze but lost to Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei respectively.
