Chess prodigy, young FIDE Master Manon Reza Neer bagged a stunning victory over Israeli Grandmaster Ido Gorshtein in the 10th round of 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest Saturday.
Neer earlier drew with French GM Marc`andria Maurizzi in the fourth round despite his team’s defeat.
Bangladesh also lost to Israel by 3-1 points with only one point coming from the 14-year old’s notable win.
The young FIDE Master with 2417 rating played with white pieces against Gorshtein, who is a 22-year old GM with a rating of 2543.
Among others in Bangladesh open team, International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman and FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia lost their games, both against Israel’s GMs.
Israel got a walkover from Bangladesh’s GM Enamul Hossain Razib who refused to play against them due to their role in Gaza war.
In form Rani Hamid finally conceded defeat after six straight wins in the competition.
The 80-year old Women’s IM lost to higher-ranked Monika Machlik.
Eventually, Bangladesh lost the game by 3.5-0.5 points to Norway.
All of Norway’s players are ranked higher than Bangladesh women’s team.
Women’s FM Noshin Anjum however, recorded a draw against Norway’s WIM Olga Dolgova.
