Jasper Lalkawmsang, also known as The Hilly Beast, claimed that he is the first Bangladeshi to make debut in three different professional martial art or combat sports.

The fighter from Bandarban hilly region achieved the feat on February 17 when he made professional boxing debut during the “Path To Glory: Hustle In Dhaka Square” organized by Bangladesh Boxing Foundation.

The 25-year old defeated Md Mahathir of BKSP in the super lightweight (63.5kg) weight category to mark his debut but Sura Krishna Chakma caught the limelight with his eighth straight win in the arena.

“I’m the only boxer who performed professional fights in world’s three brutal sports – boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts,” Jasper informed Dhaka Tribune after the bout.

Jasper began his journey in combat sports through amateur MMA in 2016-17 and has seven wins from as many outings.

His pro MMA debut was on December 19, 2019 in bantamweight (61kg) division at the Open Asia MMA championship which he won in Kolkata.

In total, he took part in three pro MMA fights, won two, both against Indian opponents including Kiran Ghag, and lost one against England’s “Dangermouse” JJ Jones.

He became champion in MMA’s 57kg flyweight event at the Soul of Warriors 3 held in March, 2020 in India.

His next MMA fight is also scheduled to be held in India in July this year.

His Muay Thai or kickboxing career started when he engaged in a single fight so far at the Muay Thai Super Fights event at Bangla Boxing Stadium in Bangla Street in Phuket, Bangkok on August 24, 2022.

He won the maiden kickboxing match but injured his left leg.

He said: “I often get injured for playing three combat sports. I’m still carrying an injury on my right hand.”

Jasper shared an x-ray report of broken third metacarpal bone of right hand sustained during a practice session three years ago.

Hailing from a middle-class family of Bandarban’s Ruma upazila, Jasper said he does not have enough money to compete on foreign lands.

He expressed gratitude to Bandarban’s chairman and Bangladesh Karate Federation’s general secretary Kyaw Shew Hla for sponsoring the events where he competed.

“People of our country rarely watch MMA or kickboxing and we don’t have professional facility or opportunity in these two sports,” said Jasper, who is studying sports science in Daffodil University with full scholarship.

“My goal is to improve my skills consistently, achieve success in fights, and eventually aim for championship titles for my country.”

For now, the target is to clinch this April’s national amateur boxing championship title representing Bandarban.
