Saif finally turns FIDE Master

While Mohammad Fahad Rahman, 10, became the youngest FIDE Master of the country just a month ago, it took Md Saif Uddin Lavlu 48 years to achieve the feat as the veteran chess player was awarded the title from FIDE yesterday. The former national chess player, who also happened to be the manager of Titas Club Chess team, is the 14th Bangladeshi to achieve the Fide Master title. Saif’s Fide rating is 2315. Earlier, he represented Bangladesh in the World Chess Olympiad in 1996 in Armenia and 2000 in Turkey. 

He has been taking part in the First Division Chess League and Premier Division Chess League since 1981. Saif is currently an executive member of the Bangladesh Chess Federation. He was the team captain of Dhaka City team in the World Cities Team Championship in 2012 in Al-Ain, UAE.
