Bangladesh chess team finished a creditable 5th in the Mixed Team Blitz of the 4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games at Incheon, South Korea, yesterday.
Bangladesh team earned six match points out of five games that were played on July 6. Bangladesh beat Thailand 4-0 in 2nd round, Japan 4-0 in 4th round and beat Sri Lanka 3-1 in 5th round. In the 1st round, Bangladesh lost to China by 1-3 points while they lost in the 3rd round to Singapore by 3.5-0.5 points.
Players of the Bangladesh team were GM Niaz Murshed, IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar, WIM Shamima Akter Liza and Sharmin Sultana Shirin. Niaz won three games and lost two, Sagar won four games and lost one, Liza won two, drew one and lost two games while Shirin won three games and lost two. A total of 20 teams from across Asia participated in the Mixed Team Blitz.
